Puchheim – a municipality in constant growth.

The Upper Bavarian town of Puchheim in the extreme east of the Fürstenfeldbruck district borders directly on the western city limits of Munich and is located about 18 kilometers from Munich's city center. To the north, the town borders Olching, to the northeast Gröbenzell, to the south Germering, and to the west, alongside Munich, Eichenau.

The former municipality was only granted city status in 2011. Puchheim is located in an area that was demonstrably settled as early as Roman times and is divided into two areas today. The old town center still has a rather rural character. In contrast, the more suburban and urban district of Puchheim Bahnhof is located on the site of a fen that was barely used in earlier centuries and only emerged at the beginning of the 20th century. The village was first mentioned around the year 950.

From airfield to residential and commercial location

At the beginning of the 20th century, Bavaria's first airport was built in the Puchheim area, in which the Academy for Aviation invested a lot of money and where major air shows took place before the First World War. In terms of transport connections, Puchheim is favorably situated on the railway line to Memmingen and Buchloe, is connected to the Munich S-Bahn network, and is directly linked to the B 2 federal highway and the A 99 autobahn via a bypass. Today, the town has over 20,000 inhabitants.

Two business parks have been established in the municipal area, hosting 2,300 commercial enterprises and internationally operating companies. This makes Puchheim an economically thriving municipality. Two out of a total of eight companies in the field of optics, photonics, and laser technology in Bavaria are located here alone. Agricultural products from the region are offered, among other places, every Wednesday and Saturday at the weekly market at Am Grünen Markt, which has existed since 1975.

Some famous architects have left their mark in Puchheim. The parish church of Maria Himmelfahrt is partly of Gothic origin and is therefore more than 750 years old. Opposite St. Joseph, slightly elevated, is Alois-Harbeck-Platz with its central and large fountain system overgrown with lichens and mosses.

The artist Karlheinz Hoffmann contributed to the Protestant Church of the Resurrection, completed in 1984. The Sprengerinstraße housing estate, designed by the Austrian architect Manfred Kovatsch, has won architectural awards several times.

An old Art Deco-style schoolhouse was lovingly renovated about ten years ago as part of the town center redesign and is now a youth center. Thanks to the Puchheim Cultural Center, founded in 1999, and the Puchheim Culture Network, there are numerous cultural projects and top-tier cultural events in the municipality. Puchheim boasts an excellent infrastructure, several schools, a grammar school, as well as a music school and a adult education center.
